CHEM 2991 - Introductory Chemistry Internship

The internship is a structured and supervised work experience allowing those concentrating in chemistry to learn basic concepts from an employer. The duties or skills learned or applied should be basic or introductory and commensurate with 1000- or 2000-level topics. Examples are job shadowing or lab assistant. Students must work at least 5 hours per week for each hour of academic credit awarded (based on a 15-week semester, this equates to 75 work hours per hour of academic credit awarded); keep a journal describing their work activities and hours worked; meet periodically with their instructor; read pertinent literature assigned by the instructor; and submit a final written assignment describing the learning value of their internship. May be repeated once if the internship experiences change. Cannot be used to fulfill requirements of the chemistry minor. Offered as needed
Prerequisite(s): A grade of “C” or higher in three hours of CHEM coursework, and permission of the instructor.
