Practitioner Teacher Program

The Practitioner Teacher Program allows prospective candidates who hold a teaching position or letter of intent for employment from a parish school board to become certified to teach in one year. Graduates of the program are awared a post-baccalaureate certificate from the unviersity.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Program completers know the subject matter they are to teach.
- Program completers will develop differentiated lessons that reflect learning-theory and research-based strategies.
- Program completers will apply the basic principles of teaching and learning.
Admission Requirements
-
possess a non-education baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited university;
-
hold a current teaching position or possess a letter of intent to hire from a school district;
-
have a cumulative 2.5.GPA on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate coursework;

pass PRAXIS I Core Academic Skills: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. (Master’s degree applications are exempt from the PRAXIS I requirements); and
-
Pass PRAXIS II: Content Knowledge (content-specific area) examination.
Graduation/Certification Requirements

complete all coursework with a grade of “C” or higher;

pass PRAXIS II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT).
