Special Education (Grades 1-5) Mild-Moderate Certification

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Special Education (Grades 1-5) Mild-Moderate allows individuals who are already state-certified teachers to complete the coursework required for add-on certification in Special Education (Grades 1-5) Mild to Moderate.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Program completers know the subject matter they are to teach.
2. Program completers will develop differentiated lessons that reflect learning-theory and research-based strategies.
3. Program completers will apply the basic principles of teaching and learning.

•  SPED 3701 - Assessment and Evaluation of Exceptional Learners  Credits: 3
•  SPED 3702 - Instructional Practices in Special Education  Credits: 3
•  SPED 4701 - Behavioral Management of Students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities  Credits: 3
•  SPED 4703 - Collaborative Teaming in Special Education  Credits: 3
•  EDCI 2900 - Teaching Computer Literacy in the Elementary and Secondary Schools  Credits: 3
•  EDCI 4200 - Reading in the Content Area  Credits: 3

Graduation Requirements

• A grade of “C” or higher in each required course
• A GPA of 2.5 or higher for all required coursework

Requirements for State Certification

• Be certified to teach in the State of Louisiana
• Have completed all Graduation Requirements for the PBC in Special Education (Grades 1-5) Mild-Moderate
